10 Most Unpredictable Goalkeepers Of All Time

6. Rüştü Reçber

Despite having storied spells at Barcelona and Fenerbahçe, for many, Rüştü Reçber's lasting impacts on the game will be his long hair and wearing anti-glare paint more commonly seen in the NFL.

A pioneer of the modern sweeper-keeper role, Reçber would often run charge out of his goal to intercept wayward long balls. This unrefined style often found Reçber in trouble; at Euro 1996 Denmark's Brian Laudrup easily rounded the out of position keeper, slotting the ball into the net as Turkey were soundly beaten 3-0.

The occasional moments of madness were contrasted of stretches of pure brilliance. Reçber was named in the 2002 UEFA Team of the Year, being the first Turkish player to be honoured with the award.

Reçber was close to signing to signing for Arsenal before Arsene Wenger signed Lehmann - but decided not to as he felt The Gunners boss disrespected him.

"I told Wenger that if he didn't believe me then he hadn't bothered watching me in the World Cup. That was the point at which everything collapsed."

The Turk's tendency to charge aggressively out of goal with complete indiscretion often led to disastrous results. In 2003, for example, he gave Kieron Dyer a better beating then Lee Bowyer ever could, nearly decapitating the Englishmen with a flying scissor-kick to the head.
