10 Newcastle Players Who Became Legends In One Moment

5. Jonas' Spider-Man Mask

It was a long time before we ever got to see the most exciting thing about Argentinian midfielder Jonas Gutierrez. The industrious winger had come pretty much out of nowhere to Newcastle, under the radar for even the most ardent fans (unless they were one of those Football Manager "experts" who claimed to know everything about the most obscure leagues), and the only thing we really knew was his nickname - Spider-Man - and how he celebrated goals. Unfortunately for Newcastle, Jonas had apparently retired the celebration - perhaps out of respect for his former club - and nobody knew for sure as he failed to score for the entirety of his first season. But then with the team relegated and Jonas still around, he scored his second competitive goal for the club against Barnsley and put his hands down his underpants to remove that fabled Spider-Man mask (surprisingly new looking considering the circumstances). Inevitably the fans loved it, and Jonas earned himself that special adoration reserved for cult heroes.
