It was supposed to be all change at Newcastle United this summer. Alan Pardew's permanent successor as head coach was supposed to arrive, players were expected to depart and new arrivals were meant to be signed up by the Magpies as soon as the season began. Unfortunately at Newcastle United, nothing is ever that simple. Only the very first part of that has come to pass, with interim head coach John Carver being sacked by the Magpies last month in order for Steve McClaren to take over permanently. With barely a month until the 2015-16 Premier League season kicks off, the Magpies are yet to confirm their first signing of the summer, however. More than 90 names have now been linked to the club, but no official unveiling has yet occurred. Yet one positive that Toon supporters have been able to take is that McClaren has been allowed to bring in his own backroom staff. And, it is these men - his assistants Ian Cathro and Paul Simpson, conditioning consultant Steve Black, fitness coach Alessandro Schoenmaker and goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman - who will be tasked with getting the current Magpies squad ready for the new campaign. In fact, some current members of the Newcastle squad should be pleased with the arrival of McClaren and his new backroom staff as their very presence could help reinvigorate their spell on Tyneside.
