10 Newcastle Rejects Who Got A Second Chance

1. Gabriel Obertan

Of all of the second chances given to Newcastle players, the revival of Gabriel Obertan this season has been the most shocking, and if it lasts, will be a rare 2014 success story for Alan Pardew. In the past two years, the Frenchman had played only 5 games for the Magpies, and looked to be top of the scrap heap in the summer, with his only saving grace being a lack of suitors. He was roundly hated by fans, booed onto the pitch and cast as a clown. But then, thanks to a couple of impressive cameos, the former Man Utd man was given the most unlikely of second chances and his manager threw his weight behind the player. For him to go from unwanted to "breathtaking" in the eyes of his manager has been astonishing, and long may it continue. Precedent, unfortunately suggests that it may not.
