10 NFL Players Who Are Having Surprisingly Great Seasons
7. Tony Jefferson
Tony Jefferson’s story is an inspirational one for any player who went undrafted in the NFL Draft. 254 picks came and went in the 2013 NFL Draft and none of them were for Jefferson. Jefferson got signed by the Cardinals after the draft and immediately started earning playing time.
That alone would be impressive for an undrafted free agent. Since his rookie campaign Jefferson has continued to get better, mainly playing strong safety for the Cardinals.
This year however, Jefferson went from an average safety to one of the best in the league, especially in his ability to stop the run. He’s already on pace for over 100 tackles this year and according to ProFootballFocus, he’s the second best safety in the entire league.
It’s easy to get overlooked when you play in a backfield that has Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Matheu, but he won’t be overlooked anymore after this year when Jefferson should, at least receive Pro-Bowl honors.
