10 NFL Rookies Who Could Set The League On Fire
5. Deshaun Watson
Well, Tom Savage didn't exactly work out, huh? After a arduous offseason, with Texans head coach Bill O'Brien swearing up and down that Savage was his starting quarterback, and Savage himself claiming he was gonna set the league on fire, it took all of two quarters for the Houston Texans to remove Savage and insert rookie Deshaun Watson under center. This is for sure the right choice, but it should have been made months ago, not thirty minutes into Week 1.
The problem with implementing Watson as quarterback so late should be obvious. The offense was created to fit Savage's skills and many players on the roster have proclaimed loyalty to Savage. If the team had set their playbook around Watson and he had had time to build trust with his skill position players, Watson would look more confident heading into Week 3. Fortunately, now that he is running the show, the team can start building the offense in his image.
The Texans have a Super Bowl caliber defense and are loaded with talented skill position players. If they hunker down and play to Watson's skills, he has the potential to be this season's Dak Prescott.
