To be fair on Vurnon Anita, he appears to be a fairly-competent left-back - but unfortunately his tiny frame and his lack of physical presence means he is certainly a "soft touch" in his preferred position of defensive-midfield. Anita has barely featured in defensive-midfield as Newcastle's season has descended into farce in recent weeks, but it says a lot about his abilities there that Carver is unwilling to trust him when the Magpies need results. Ever since his dreadful 45 minutes at the Etihad, when he was hooked at half-time during the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City, Carver has not trusted Anita at the base of midfield - and he is unlikely to be the man to stop the Magpies leaking goals for fun.
