10 Outsiders Who Could Make England's World Cup 2018 Squad

It almost seems crazy to suggest that Nick Pope (pictured above playing for Charlton) won't go to the World Cup. Statistically, he's not just one of the best keepers in England, but in the whole of Europe, and has had a huge role to play in Burnley's successful year.

It's amazing to think that a guy who started off as a backup keeper at a mid-table side has gone on to have one of the best seasons of any goalie in all of England. And it's even crazier to see that, at least based on current evidence, Gareth Southgate seems to prefer Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland ahead of him.

Sure, Butland and Pickford have won a few caps between them and have done well enough at club level, but Pope has unquestionably been one of the best keepers in the country and thoroughly deserves a spot on the plane. Right now, the only question is whether Southgate will decide to take the highly experienced but rapidly fading Joe Hart as his third-choice man or give Pope a chance.
