10 Player Spurs Shouldn't Have Got Rid Of

2. Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson arrived at Spurs in 2012 after a highly impressive season on loan at Swansea City the year prior to that. He spent two years at Spurs and really didn't put a foot wrong. He scored an impressive eight goals from midfield in the mere 26 Premier League games he was started in and five additional goals in seventeen starts in other competitions. In Spurs' 4-2-3-1 formation, Sigurdsson was part of the trio behind the striker when he played. The most baffling thing about his sale in the summer of 2014 was that the other players who played in that trio - the likes of Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli, Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon - weren't exactly performing and certainly weren't providing the goals Sigurdsson could provide. He's back at Swansea City now - permanently - and he has proven himself again as a top Premier League player since he returned, as well as continuing to perform well for Iceland, having recently scored both goals in a 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifying match against the Netherlands.
