Netherlands international Rafael van der Vaart was part of that famous Spurs team whose midfield included Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Scott Parker - who was playing out of his skin at the time. Unlike Bale and Modric, despite being a world class player, van der Vaart was happy at White Hart Lane yet, for some reason, he started getting overlooked and, in 2012 just two years after he signed for them, Spurs sold him to his former club Hamburger SV. Spurs haven't been able to replace van der Vaart since his departure. He was the man who effortlessly linked the midfield to the lone striker and his ability to both create and score goals has been sorely missed. The arrivals of the likes of Mousa Dembele, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey caused him to lose his place in the team and, as good as those players are, they couldn't hold a candle to van der Vaart so that seemed somewhat strange. He was just 29 when Spurs sold him and he had several good years left in him. To actively shun and choose to sell such a huge and talented star was very silly. So there you have it - ten players Spurs shouldn't have got rid of. Did you enjoy this article? Do you agree with the entries on this list? Which other players should Spurs never have sold?
