Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players Wenger Should Have Signed

2. Seamus Coleman

Replacing Bacary Sagna was always going to prove a hard task for Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman consistent throughout his seven years in north London. Le Professeur opted for the right-back who was keeping Sagna out of France€™s starting XI, Newcastle United€™s Mathieu Debuchy. Although the 29-year-old has slotted in rather well in the right-hand side of the defence, his age does mean that in a couple of seasons or so, he will need to be replaced. At 25, Everton€™s Seamus Coleman may well have represented a better signing in terms of longevity and, given Debuchy€™s eagerness to get forward at inappropriate times, also talent. The Republic of Ireland international, who is now in his fifth year with the Merseyside-based club, cost a poultry £60,000 from Sligo Rovers but would now, easily, fetch £20-25million. Although a huge fee for a right-back, much like Manchester United€™s acquisition of Southampton€™s Luke Shaw, you€™d be being your full-back for the next seven seasons (as a minimum).
