10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Liverpool

3. Robbie Keane

Keane's £19m arrival at Liverpool prior to the 2008/09 season was met with joy by many supporters. The Republic of Ireland legend had been a superb servant to Tottenham, and he was seen as the perfect man to partner Fernando Torres in attack as Benitez's men looked to win their first Premier League title. At 28 he was in his prime, and the fact he was a boyhood Red made it look like a match made in heaven. Incredibly, Keane spent just over six months at Anfield, in what has to go down as one of the most failed transfers in Liverpool's history. It took until his eleventh appearance in a Reds shirt to finally open his account, with the striker converting against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. He lacked a spark though, and the clever flicks and memorable strikes that he produced in abundance at White Hart Lane were nowhere to be seen. He eventually lost his place in the side, and with Steven Gerrard in sensational form behind Torres in a 4-2-3-1 formation there was simply no way back for him. His best moment during his short time at Liverpool was a thunderous effort against Arsenal at the Emirates, but it really was pretty much all the former Wolves and Coventry star had to shout about during a wretched period in his career. He moved back to Spurs in February 2009, but has never really looked the same player since his Anfield nightmare.
