Mario Balotelli may not have the worst record of the players on this list, but he is certainly one of the most controversial and deserves to be at the top. He never hit top form at City for various reasons including pressure, competition, his ego and off-field troubles. You name it, Balotelli struggled with it during his time at The Etihad. Having caught the eye of the City management whilst at Inter Milan, the troubled striker signed for the sky blues in 2010 for £24 million. He was part of City's big spending spree in 2010 and was seen by the board as the figurehead or talisman of this spree. During his two and a half seasons with City he made just 54 league appearances but did net 20 times. Although it isn't a tremendous record, considering he was in and out of the side he did relatively well in front of goal. He struggled with the fact that he was not the big name at the club. He was one of many stars at The Etihad and he never seemed to cope with not having the spotlight on him. Naturally, he also was not happy whenever he wasn't included in the starting line-up and he was never afraid to air his frustration. Shortly before his departure in Januray 2013, he was photographed having a mid-training tussle with manager, Roberto Mancini. This incident put the final nail in the coffin for Balotelli and he was out of the door and on his way to AC Milan later in the January transfer window. He was sold for £19 million, spelling a £5 million loss for City but his loss was not about the money. Balotelli was more trouble than he was worth at City and seemed to cause disruption for fun. Added to this he never truly maintained the form every football fan knows he is capable of producing. He had moments of pure magic, but these were always littered with lacklustre performances and fines aplenty. He is now with Italian superpowers AC Milan, where he has scored 26 league goals in 43 appearances. Manchester City fans will be left wondering of what might have been as Mario Balotelli is undoubtedly a terrific footballer. But ultimately his temperament let him down whilst he was at the Manchester club. Which other talented Man City failures belong on this list? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
