10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man Utd
10. Shinji Kagawa
Japanese international Shinji Kagawa is set to be given another chance by van Gaal this season after he was given assurances he'd be a squad player in the coming campaign. Even still, that status is a huge fall from grace for a player who promised so much. Kagawa came in from Borussia Dortmund with a huge reputation, having scored 24 goals in 56 games for the club - the midfielder even helped Dortmund to two consecutive Bundesliga titles and a DFB Pokal win in 2012. It was hoped Kagawa could bring similar form to Old Trafford. However, he failed to establish himself under Sir Alex Ferguson in his debut season at the club, though he did show glimpses of the player worthy of a £17 million transfer fee. A particular highlight came when he became the first Asian player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, during United's 4-0 win against Norwich City. Kagawa won a Premier League title that year, but was effectively discarded by David Moyes following his takeover from Ferguson in the summer of 2013. Kagawa's career since arriving at United has stalled because of a lack of chances to get a run of games, while the arrival of Juan Mata has permanently consigned him to being second fiddle. Kagawa still boasts excellent talents, but he just hasn't been able to fit in at Old Trafford.
