10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man Utd
4. Owen Hargreaves
Owen Hargreaves perhaps could have gone on to be a great United player, but Sir Alex might have guessed from a mile off what was to come when he signed from Bayern Munich. Signed for £17 million, Hargreaves looked the part in his first season at the club, and helped United to a Premier League and Champions League double in May 2008. But the Canadian/German/Welsh/Englishman would spent most of the rest of his Old Trafford tenure out injured (surprise, surprise). The next three years would only see Hargreaves make 5 appearances, and his attitude towards spending so long on the treatment table didn't please his boss too much. In Ferguson's autobiography, he ended up accusing Hargreaves of not having enough determination and always opting for the easy choice. Ferguson even admitted he didn't like the midfielder and he labelled him as one of his worst ever signings. It seems as though even if Hargreaves had been fit, he'd have been frozen out at Old Trafford anyway. Perhaps he got his own back by joining Manchester City in 2011? He made one appearance but City snatched the title in the last minute of the season, so it's open to interpretation.
