Phil Jones is the first centre back on this list who almost signed for Arsenal. The Blackburn Rovers academy graduate was linked with the Gunners in 2011, as Wenger looked to strengthen the defensive department of his team. Manchester United, however, were also keen on the centre back. Both teams agreed a fee and it was up to the youngster to decide who he wanted to join. Despite Arsenal reportedly offering higher wages, Jones chose to join United and went onto win the Premier League title with them in 2013. He has also been capped for England nine times and secured himself a place in Roy Hodgsons squad for this summers World Cup in Brazil.
