Just last month, Steve Bruce was quoted as stating that he had hoped the final 24 hours of the transfer window would be a 'nice, peaceful and stress-free day'. It must have been said with tongue firmly in cheek, however, such was the flurry of activity at the KC Stadium on that final day, with the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Gaston Ramirez, Abel Hernandez and Mohamed Diame coming through the door. It showed just how far the club had come since the club's first ever season in the top-flight five years ago, as any one of those players would have been a marquee signing back then. Signing four on the same day would have beggared belief. There was even time for a couple of rejections during those final 24 hours, however, with French media reporting that Ghanaian World Cup star Andre Ayew had been the subject of a bid from the Tigers. Having been linked with a move from Marseille throughout the transfer window, French newspaper L'Equipe reported that Steve Bruce made a play for his signature on deadline day, with Swansea City and QPR also in the mix for the Ghana wide-man. Ayew apparently spurned the chance to join the Tigers revolution, instead holding out for the chance to move to London with QPR, but that transfer never materialised either.
