10 Players You Didn't Know Nearly Signed For Inter Milan
6. Carlos Tevez
It was one of the most infamous examples of the spoilt brat behaviour that has begun to fester within the top-flight of English football. With the whispering agents, lucrative contracts and excessive pandering to multi-millionaires, some of these top-level footballers have begun to believe their own hype, which has led to cases such as Carlos Tevez petulantly refusing to come off the bench for Manchester City in a Champions League tie in September 2011. This set in motion the chain of events whereby Roberto Mancini effectively banished him from first-team duties and he hopped on a plane to South America, while his team-mates who actually cared fought tirelessly for the title. Despite his very public showing of immaturity, clubs still knew of his class, and there were no shortage of suitors. With AC Milan having signalled their interest within weeks of Tevez tantrum, it would be their San Siro counterparts who would attempt to gazump them in the January transfer window with an offer of £20.7 million for the troubled maverick.
''Our offer is 25 million euros - now it depends on them whether they accept. The offer is there. Now we are free to decide whether to go ahead or not. - Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti, January 2012.
By that stage, AC Milan had pulled out of negotiations following Brazilian forward Alexandre Patos decision to stay with the club amid interest from PSG. However, Inters bid was not deemed sufficient by the Mancunian outfit, and was swiftly rejected.
