10 Players You Didn't Know Were On Trial At Newcastle United

8. Georgi Terziev

You might think I'm scraping the barrel already here (don't worry, that doesn't happen until number 1) but the vast majority of you reading this will not only have watched Georgi Terziev play more than once this year, but been very impressed with him to boot. You see, as well as being an absolutely fantastic score on the Scrabble board, Georgi Terziev is a defender for Bulgarian Champions League side Ludogorets, who you'll all remember for winning that dramatic penalty shootout with an outfield player in goal, and making Liverpool look fairly stupid twice in the group stages. Terziev himself rising above Glen Johnson to head in the equaliser against them some two weeks ago. It could have been very different for him though, as he was invited over from Nafteks Burgas in 2008 to have a trial with Newcastle United, as the club looked to bolster its youth ranks following the return of Kevin Keegan. He wasn't considered up to it though, and headed back to Bulgaria before signing with Ludogorets ahead of their league championship win in 2013. Went on to: Win the Bulgarian Group A, qualify for the Champions League, ruin Brendan Rodgers night. Not considered as good as: Ben Tozer, Tamas Kadar, David Edgar.
