10 Players You Didn't Know Were On Trial At Newcastle United

9. Aldo Duscher

Known is Spain as "The Butcher", and only really remarkable to fans in England for being the man who broke David Beckham's metatarsal bone in the run up to the 2002 World Cup, Argentina international Aldo Duscher came for a trial at Newcastle in the Summer of 2007. Despite Sam Allardyce being ankle deep in his grand plan to overhaul Newcastle's entire first team squad, he found time to take a look at Duscher who had recently seen out his contract at Deportivo (where he was once teammates with a certain Albert Luque) in order to seek out a new challenge away from La Liga. It looked like an interesting proposition for Newcastle as well, as Duscher had not so long ago made a £9million move from Sporting Lisbon and been very highly thought of across Europe. Manchester United and Arsenal apparently considering him as a replacement for Keane and Vieira respectively. In his short stay at the club though major concerns were raised about the players fitness, despite him only being 28 at that stage, and after only a few days Newcastle told him they wouldn't be considering signing him. Went on to: Move back to Spain with Santander and Sevilla before heading to Ecuador, Cyprus and Greece. Not considered as good as: Geremi, Alan Smith, Nicky Butt.
