The former Manchester City man should be entering his prime at the age of 26, and cost the FA Cup finalists absolutely nothing. Yes, his wages will be more than anything United would pay a defender who isn't captain Coloccini, but that should pale into insignificance when there isn't a transfer fee involved. Certainly one that would have done a job for Newcastle. As well as being a step up on anything they currently have in the middle, he would have provided excellent cover for Daryl Janmaat at right back.
