10 Players Nobody Expected Man Utd To Sign

8. Angel Di Maria

In Angel Di Maria, the Old Trafford faithful are arguably witnessing the club€™s best player since Cristiano Ronaldo parted the shores for Spain five years ago. Oozing mouthwatering skill, glorious ability and bamboozling skill, the Argentine technician is one of the world€™s top play-makers and the Real Madrid hierarchy may well come to lament ridding themselves of his talents to make way for the latest footballing sensation in James Rodriguez. While there were one or two rumours during the summer of Di Maria leaving the Bernabeu, not even the most optimistic Red Devil could have foreseen the top assister in La Liga swapping the €˜La Decima€™-winning Real Madrid side for a European football-less Manchester United. With French fat cats PSG having been in the driving seat for his signature for much of the summer, it was only the last fortnight when Manchester United stepped up their pursuit of the Argentine playmaker. With the 26 year old announcing that he wanted out of the club after the rejection of a new contract, it only took five days before news broke that the club who had finished seventh in the Premier League last term had agreed a £59.7 million deal with Real Madrid. It€™s a transfer that Manchester United supporters still quite can€™t get their heads around, but is one that is certainly very welcome. With three goals and three assists in his first five Premier League appearances, he has hit the ground running in a Man United team desperately trying to get back on track. A catalyst for success, perhaps?
