10 Players Nobody Expected Newcastle To Sign

Not many players jump from Sunderland to Newcastle, especially not four months after silencing the Gallowgate End with a goal during a 3-0 derby-day victory. If ever there was a moment that would have destroyed any hopes the Geordie might have had of representing the club of his dreams, it was holding his index finger to his lips as he wheeled away in smug glee having smacked home the third goal for the enemy. 129 days later, however, and it would be the 24 year old Sunderland midfielder would be putting pen to paper on a long-term contract following the expiration of his contract across enemy lines.
''To come to the team I supported as a boy, my hometown team, will be really special for me. If you asked fans around the world, the one thing they۪d like to do before they die, it would be to play for the team they support and I۪ve got the chance to do that.۪۪ - Jack Colback, June 2014.
Predictably, it was not a move that was greeted with much enthusiasm on Wearside, with the club issuing a statement expressing the €˜bitter taste€™ the manner of his departure has left in their mouth.
''I۪m sure I will be hated quite a lot there now and the derby at the Stadium of Light should be interesting. But it is not something I can dwell on and I am strong enough to deal with it. This is football and I couldn۪t allow myself to think about what fans were going to say and then miss this chance.۪۪ - Jack Colback, June 2014.
