Easily one of the worst signings in the history of Everton and arguably the worst of the David Moyes era, Per Kroldrup is still probably ruing joining Everton back in 2005. There was a lot of expectation around the Danish defender when he joined from Udinese for £5m. Already an international with the Denmark side, he looked to be a bargain as the Blues aimed to strengthen following their Champions League qualification. Unfortunately things started badly at Goodison Park as he suffered a groin injury before playing a single game, leaving him requiring surgery and missing an extended period as a result. He would eventually make his debut against Aston Villa on Boxing Day of 2005, putting in a forgettable performance in a 4-0 defeat that proved to be his only appearance for the club. So bad was his time at Goodison Park, his Everton career is widely referred to as one of the worst transfers in the history of the club and English football itself, with the defender himself later admitting that he struggled to adapt to the pace and intensity of the English game. It is arguable that had he stayed in Italy, things would have gone much better for him as his short stint in England certainly ruined not only his reputation but certainly any chances of another shot at the bigger stage.
