10 Players Who Probably Regret Joining Spurs

2. David Bentley

Narrowly missing out on the top spot on our list is David Bentley, oh David where to start with you? Once dubbed the next David Beckham by former England manager Steve McClaren, now retired at the relatively young age of 29, where did it all go wrong? Bentley impressed as a youngster with Arsenal but it was Blackburn Rovers who signed the adventurous winger in 2005, and it was with the Rovers where he developed into one of England's most exciting prospects, not only becoming a consistent creative outlet for the Lancashire club but also a reliable goalscorer. Following the departure of manager Mark Hughes to Manchester City, Bentley signed a six-year-deal with Tottenham, however his red hot form took a serious blow with Spurs and with Aaron Lennon providing the goods, Bentley was forced to watch most of the games from the bench as he dropped down the pecking order for club and country. Four loan spells and one goal across 35 appearances in total for Birmingham City, West Ham United, FC Rostov and Blackburn Rovers respectively, proved enough for Bentley as he packed it in for good, claiming he had fallen out of love with the game, perhaps this relationship wouldn't have gone so far south if he had avoided White Hart Lane.
