Michael Dawson is Spurs' longest-serving player, having joined the club nearly ten years ago in January 2005. He has served the club well, but has never really stood out as anything more than a no-nonsense defender who isn't afraid to get stuck in. That's all well and good, but in a team with the ambition of Spurs, defenders like Jan Vertonghen and Ledley King who offer more than that are needed - and having been part of an underachieving team for nearly ten years, that should be indicative of the fact that his time is up. He's the club captain, a big character and a really nice guy, but as Spurs look to progress in to the upper echelons of European football, they should be looking for a higher class of defender than Dawson and the fact that he has been linked to the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace and Hull City in recent times is reflective of the level he now finds himself at.
