10 Players Who Stole A Living From Newcastle United

7. Paul Dalglish

Nepotism is a terrible thing in football, but there is some benefit in snapping up youngsters related to legends of the game, as Kasper Schmeichel has shown. Sadly, the law of Jordi Cruyff determines that most footballing sprogs come with diminished returns, and Newcastle found this to their disappointment when Kenny Dalglish brought his offspring to the club in 1997. He'd already been at Liverpool and Celtic and not made a single appearance, but that was fine, as he was still young, and surely having Kenny at home to drill the skills would mean that he would eventually come good. Surely? Unfortunately, if there was any skill passed down to the second generation of Dalglishes, it must have gone to ESPN presenter and daughter Kelly, who Newcastle sadly didn't snap up when Kenny came to the club. Paul was about as bland a footballer as could possibly be imagined, and while he scored a pair of goals in the League Cup, the rest of his time at the club was grey, as he spent two short loans away from the club and proved to be a waste of whatever wages he was given over his near two year spell. Dalglish Jnr is currently coaching at MLS side Real Salt Lake, proving once and for all the old mantra that those who can't do, teach.
