10 Players Who Could Be Axed For Newcastle's Summer Recruits
10. Moussa Sissoko
Unlike many of the players on this list, Sissoko's place in the starting lineup (or even at the club in general) is likely not under threat. Sissoko is seen, rightly or wrongly, as a player that is integral to the side with his direct running a cause for concern for opposition defences. Sissoko's lack of end-product has been masked by his importance to the side and it is clear that he will still get ample chances to get his head down. The difference this season will be that this will no longer be Sissoko's midfield to dominate as he sees fit. The Frenchman has, especially since the departure of Yohan Cabaye, been key to the way Newcastle play, with his lack of finesse glossed over in a team that has rarely played through the midfield over the past 18 months. With Steve McClaren and Ian Cathro calling the shots, expect to see more variety in how the team plays. Similar to Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum adds pace and power to the Magpies but has the added bonus of being somewhat more of an attacking player than the Frenchman. With more quality around him and serious attempts from the coaching team to play more progressively, Sissoko must improve his distribution if he wishes to remain such an integral part of the team.

University of Edinburgh graduate with a love of sport, in particular Newcastle United surprisingly enough. When I'm not shaking my head at Paul Dummett and Yoan Gouffran, I'm usually reading something or watching films of varying quality.
