10 Players Who "Could Be Like New Signings" For Newcastle Boss Steve McClaren

7. Sylvain Marveaux

Syvlain Marveaux was sent on a season-long loan to Guingamp last summer after Alan Pardew made it clear the playmaker was not in his plans - a view that was then adopted by John Carver. Despite this, Marveaux had a reasonable campaign in France, contributing two goals and three assists during 2014-15. Although not exactly prolific, Marveaux received praise from a number of Ligue 1 commentators for his impressive performances. Creativity was severely lacking on Tyneside during the 2014-15 campaign - but it wasn't at Guingamp. This turned out to be another pointless loan deal from a Newcastle point of view, depriving the Magpies of an option in attack. He must impress in pre-season in order to force his way into Steve McClaren's plans, otherwise Marveaux will leave for nothing next summer - but, due to the fact he has been away from the Benton training base for an entire year, he could be feasibly described by his new head coach as like a "fresh signing".
