10 Players Who Probably Regret Leaving Leeds United

6. Martin Woods

Martin Woods was still a teenager when Leeds United suffered relegation to the second tier in 2004 and making just one substitute appearance for the club after a loan period with Hartlepool United may not have been what he had envisaged during the following campaign.

However, he surely should have given life at Elland Road more of a chance rather than signing for Premier League outfit Sunderland. He turned down a new deal at Leeds to move to the Stadium of Light and he may have been given assurances by Mick McCarthy that he would get opportunities.

It soon became clear that he wasn't ready to compete among English football's elite. He made two appearances off the bench during the opening month of the 2005-06 season but he would only feature six more times throughout the rest of the season, making just one start in the league away at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunderland were relegated and the upheaval at the club led to Woods being released. Perhaps with the urge to become more realistic with his ambitions, he would sign for Rotherham United - who at the time were playing in League One - and he would begin to build a solid career at Millmoor but he has never featured in the Premier League again.
