At the age of 19, Scott Carson was given the option of either signing a new long-term deal with Leeds United or transferring to Liverpool to act as understudy to Jerzy Dudek.

The goalkeeper decided to move to Merseyside and four months after signing on the dotted line at Anfield, he would be on the substitutes' bench for Liverpool's famous Champions League triumph over AC Milan in 2005, but as far as his career in general is concerned, it was arguably the wrong move.

In four years at Liverpool, Carson made just four Premier League appearances as he found himself continually loaned out by Rafael Benitez. He was getting regular game time at both Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa but he never got the chance to follow in the footsteps of some of the club's great stoppers.

With his England career also in tatters after the infamous defeat to Croatia in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, Carson has spent much of the past years outside of the Premier League, even spending two years in Turkey with Bursaspor.

He was first choice at the Green Crocodiles but life outside of England's top flight wasn't what Carson had in mind when he left Leeds so early in his career.
