10. David Ginola
Owen Humphreys/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesFrench winger David Ginola joined Tottenham Hotspur for a bargain £2.5 million in 1997 from Newcastle United. Although he enjoyed relative success with the Magpies - finishing as high as second in the Premier League in his time there - he won his only trophy in English football with Spurs in the 1-0 1999 League Cup final victory over Leicester City. In the same year, he was named as the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year and he also scored one of the most memorable goals of modern times, when he weaved in and out of a plethora of Barnsley players before finishing crisply in to the left side of the net in an FA Cup tie. Spurs sold Ginola, for a half a million profit, despite him being 33 years old, to Everton in the year 2000 - much to Ginola's chagrin. He expressed his disappointment at his sale, stating that it was a "bombshell" to him when Spurs accepted the Toffees' offer. He struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park and was sold to Aston Villa, where he made even less of an impact, before retiring in 2002.
