10 Players Who Regret Leaving Rangers

7. Kris Boyd

Between 2005 and 2010, Kris Boyd found the back of the net at a goals-per-game ratio not seen since the days of Ally McCoist, but his free-scoring years at Ibrox saw him frequently linked with a transfer to England. After 101 goals in 143 appearances, the move finally materialised when he turned down a new contract at Rangers to sign for Middlesbrough. Boyd was motivated by the challenge of trying to help Middlesbrough regain a place in the Premier League rather than money - he turned down a higher wage at Kayserispor to make the switch to the Riverside Stadium - but he was unable to reproduce his previous form, scoring 12 goals in 41 matches at Boro and a loan spell with Nottingham Forest. He would play in Turkey and the MLS before eventually heading back to Scotland with Kilmarnock, where he scored 22 times during the 2013-14 campaign. Rangers would swoop for his services for a second time, but he managed just three goals in the Scottish Championship - a record which went a small way to tarnishing the standing that he had already built at the club.
