10 Players Who Successfully Played For Newcastle & Sunderland

5. Paul Bracewell

NUFC: 1992 - 1995 (88 games, 5 goals) SAFC: 1983 - 1984, 1989 - 1992, 1995 - 1997 (272 games, 6 goals combined) Bracewell is a supreme authority on the Tyne-Wear merry-go round having endured a trilogy of separate spells at Sunderland as well as crossing the divide to spend three successful years in black and white in the mid-nineties. With his contract running down at Roker Park in 1992 the midfielder - who became known as 'Ice Man' due having his battered ankles encased in ice after every match - managed to irk the Mackems when he spurned their offer of a new deal to sign for Newcastle after we offered better terms.
Bracewell was a pivotal figure and a steady performer in the engine room during our successful charge into the Premier League but failed to retain his place in the side once we reached the top-flight and returned to Wearside in 1995. And just like he did in the Black and White stripes Bracewell helped Sunderland to gain promotion from Division One in the 1995/96 season before departing for the final time to reunite with Kevin Keegan at Fulham.
