Local boy Marcos Alonso joined Real Madrid at the age nine and represented the club at every youth level until he progressed to the B-team in 2008.

The Spaniard showed plenty of promise and finally in April 2010, then-manager Manuel Pellegrini gave him his first senior cap. Like many other academy players on this list, he too wasn't entertained and sold to Bolton Wanderers that summer.

However, it was only at Fiorentina where he started becoming a household name and soon enough, Chelsea came calling in 2016 and he hasn't looked back since.

Alonso has been a clutch player for the Blues, helping them to the Premier League, FA Cup as well as Europa League glory. His chances in the current season though, have come few and far between as Frank Lampard has switched to a back-three.
