10 Predictions For 2015 Major League Baseball Season

9. The New York Yankees Will Be Worse Than The New York Mets

For most of the last 15 years, the better New York team has been the Yankees. They last won the World Series in 2009 and since 1996 they have five World Series. They have more World Series titles than any team in the history of the sport. For a lot of fans they either love them for being so great or they hate them because some fans like to hate the best since they get sick of them winning so often. As for the Mets, they have been a laughingstock in recent years. It seems like they have been in rebuilding mode for much of the last decade. While they have been going through that process they've also been building up a young roster of talent led by a number of high quality pitchers including Matt Harvey (a future NL Cy Young winner) and last year's rookie of the year Jacob deGrom. They need more than that, but they are on the right track. This feels like a year where the Yankees really won't contend for a playoff spot although the AL East is pretty wide open. The NL East where the Mets reside is full of some potentially bad teams like the Braves (hot start so far is surprising), Marlins and Phillies so there's a good chance for them to improve. The prediction here is that the Mets will win 84 games (five more than last year) and the Yankees will win 78 wins, which would be six less than last year. Don't be surprised if the Mets become a playoff contender within a year or two.
