10 Premier League Record Signings Who Were A Waste Of Money
7. Christopher Samba
In what is perhaps one of the Premier League's strangest transfer signings in its 20 plus year history, former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba moved to QPR for £12.5M from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. At the time, QPR were in trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table and had recently appointed Harry Redknapp as the man to save them from relegation. In January of 2013 Samba joined the side, hailed by Redknapp as a "beast" and "just what we need." After QPR were somewhat inevitably relegated at the end of the season and after only six months at the club, Samba returned to Anzhi for almost the exact same fee that he was signed for. So at least the wasted money - which was also made significantly worse by £100k a week in wages - was recouped. It just didn't help that the plodding defender's performances had helped cause relegation and the massive financial hit linked to it.
