10 Problems Steve McClaren Must Address At Newcastle
8. He Must Seek Commitment From Newcastle Players Who Have Been Looking For An Exit
As well as moving some unwanted squad members on, McClaren must also sit down with those first-team players who let their gaze slip away from St James' Park last summer and towards pastures new. Tim Krul is currently contemplating his future on Tyneside - while Moussa Sissoko, Daryl Janmaat and Cheick Tiote have also, at various points, considered whether or not they want to remain at Newcastle next season - and McClaren must seek assurances from them all. If the commitment is not there even after McClaren has attempted to persuade them to stay then they must be shipped out quickly - hopefully for reasonable fees. Those funds should then be reinvested in the playing staff and then McClaren will know that he has a group of players who are fully committed to the cause.
