10 Problems Steve McClaren Must Address At Newcastle

7. Appoint A Captain

Does Steve McClaren really see Fabricio Coloccini as captaincy material? Many don't - and for large portions of last season, the Argentine looked anything but a Premier League skipper. Coloccini goes quiet, he doesn't talk to his fellow players regularly, he too often fails to lead from the front and he speaks to the media once in a blue moon. That is not what Newcastle United need from their skipper. If McClaren is not convinced by Coloccini's leadership then he must look around his squad and elect an alternative skipper - potentially Siem de Jong, Jack Colback or Daryl Janmaat - or make recruiting a player with captaincy credentials a top priority. For far too long now Newcastle have been lacking in leadership. McClaren must put a stop to that.
