10 Questions NUFC Fans Must Ask John Carver During Meeting

9. Why Is 2014-15 Different To The Relegation Season Of 2008-09?

In 2008-09, the national media constantly kept reporting how Newcastle United were "too good to go down", but after Joe Kinnear was hospitalised with the Magpies already in freefall, Alan Shearer came in to try and steady the ship. Unfortunately just one win in eight saw Newcastle relegated with 34 points - one less than Hull City and two less than rivals Sunderland. Yes the Magpies may already have a point more than than that this season - but they have been stuck on the 35-point mark since the end of February and history is in danger of repeating itself. The current crop of players are beginning to look like a clone of the Michael Owens, Damien Duffs and Habib Beyes who took the Magpies down in 2009 - and Shearer has already warned that Newcastle could be relegated. Carver must be asked why 2014-15 is not a repeat of 2008-09.
