10 Reasons Sunderland Shouldn't Fear Man United

9. Poyet And Possession Football Goes Hand-In-Hand

The one thing that Gus has brought is a style of football that he created, educated and delivered at Brighton and then carried on at Sunderland in dramatic fashion. We now play out from the back and use our wing backs to help support the wingers when we counter attack and the formula seems to be working after the last 10 games or so for Poyet. Many teams find it difficult when the other team keeps the ball for long periods of play and in the words of many great coaches: "They can't score if they don't have possession of the ball". This philosophy worked well against United last time we met and it worked in patches against West Brom last weekend but we need to ensure we keep this style going for the full 90 minutes rather than the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of every game! If the players, including new recruits, understand what Gustavo is trying to build then the results will follow and what else would be a better way of showing the world than against Van Gaal's team on Sunday.
