10 Reasons You SHOULD Care About Super Bowl LIV
8. The New Decade Begins A New Era!
The time of the old guard (yes, including those New England Patriots) is done and gone. A new decade opens with a thrilling showcase between fresh faces, including the stars that'll be writing the legacy of the sport over the next ten years and perhaps even longer!
Sports history is defined by eras. Think of the 1990s, and images of Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, or those iconic Manchester United squads are sure to come to mind. Moving forward, the late Kobe Bryant’s LA Lakers dominated basketball conversation. Up to now, it’s been LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Rafael Nadal. The names are well known to all and sundry.
There are a select few figures who’ve had a stranglehold over the NFL for the last two decades or so. Pour over the recent history books and you’ll see numerous references to the likes of Tom Brady, the Manning brothers Peyton and Eli, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees.
As 2020 begins, with those players having retired or being close to it, a new generation is coming to the forefront of NFL stardom, and this Super Bowl is a testament to that. Neither team has the feel of a one season wonder; indeed, the prevailing feeling is that this is the first Super Bowl trip of many for the likes of Patrick Mahomes and George Kittle.
These will be the figures that’ll define the new era. It’s the next chapter in gridiron lore, and it's all beginning right now. What a time to be alive!
