Though he was only at Real Madrid for a brief loan spell, Faubert will go down in footballing history for all the wrong reasons. The former West Ham man was loaned to Los Blancos in January 2009, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Needless to say, that option was never taken.

The Frenchman made only two appearances for the Spanish giants, and famously fell asleep on the bench during a match between Real Madrid and Villarreal. He also missed training on one occasion due to thinking he had a day off. Unsurprisingly, Madrid decided not to buy him when the chance came up and he returned to London at the end of the season.

Faubert went on to make over 100 appearances for West Ham, before signing for Elazığspor in the Turkish Super Lig. He then re-signed for his boyhood team Bordeaux in 2012, for whom he made 10 appearances for last season.
