Caps: 51 Teddy Sheringham one of the best English players to have played for Spurs in the Premier League era. In fact, hes one of the best players Spurs have ever had, full stop, and one of the best players England have had in recent years. Although he earned 51 caps, which is a good haul, Sheringham was so good that she should have been one of those players pushing for 100 caps - like the David Beckhams, the Ashley Coles and the Steven Gerrards of this world. When you consider that Alan Shearer earned nine more caps than Sheringham, despite the facts that Shearer retired from international football at 29 and Sheringham was still playing Premier League football until he was 39, you wonder how he only got the 51 caps. Wayne Rooney is only 28 and he already has 97 caps. Heck, Emile Heskey got 62! Sheringham was never the most mobile and, at international level at least, he wasn't a prolific scorer (he scored eleven times), but you would always want him in your team for his fantastic footballing brain.
