10 Spurs Players Who Should Have Earned More England Caps
3. Darren Anderton
Caps: 30 Darren Anderton was undoubtedly one of the most underrated players in recent English footballing history. The winger was a startlingly talented player who very rarely had a bad game but, through a combination of persistent injuries and the fact that he spent much of his international career competing with a certain David Beckham, he didn't earn the number of caps he truly deserved. Anderton made well over 300 appearances for Spurs and scored more than 50 goals for the club from midfield. His mountain of assists for Teddy Sheringham make the pairing one of the most compatible duos in Premier League history. His scoring ratio for England (seven goals in 30 caps) was much better than Beckham's (seventeen goals in 115 caps), but Beckham's leadership skills coupled with his uncanny ability to notch from a set-piece were the reasons that Anderton struggled to truly establish himself as a first-team winger for his country - and that's a huge shame.
