''If I think I am still seeing enough of them at club level to believe that they are still going to be as good as they were when they came with us, I try to keep them on board, but you cant keep people on board forever. Andros and people like Rickie Lambert, they know that. They realise, I cant keep expecting to get a call-up when Im not playing enough football. - England manager Roy Hodgson, November 2014.
On one hand, all the signs seem to point to Spurs wanting to keep winger Andros Townsend. The club turned down a £10 million from Southampton for his services during the summer, Mauricio Pochettino has spoken of the 23 year olds qualities, and he has been involved in thirteen games so far this season. However, the cutting facts are as follows - Townsend has only started one Premier League this season, and has failed to even get on the pitch in six of the eleven matches so far. He is at an age where he needs to be playing regularly, or his career could tail off dramatically like a certain Spurs team-mate (Aaron Lennon, step forward). Not only do his international ambitions rely on regular game-time for his club, but with Pochettino looking to dip into the transfer market, he might look at cashing in on the £10 million-rated winger in order to strengthen his strike-force.
