Polish striker Grzegorz Rasiak was signed for Spurs on the stroke of midnight on transfer deadline day in August of 2005 from Derby County (who were a Championship team at the time). He had a relatively decent goalscoring record of 18 goals in 41 league games for the Rams, but he was 26 at the time and had never played at anything close to a Premier League level and, despite the fact that Spurs had been linked with a number of top strikers, he was the man brought in to solve their goalscoring problem. In all fairness, he should never have really made it to the top level, but the fact is he did and his fall from grace was as spectacular as it was inevitable. Costing just £2.25 million, Rasiak only made nine appearances for Spurs without scoring a single goal. He went on to sign for Southampton who, at the time, were playing more at his level in the Championship. After that, however, his career took a major nosedive. He was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers and Watford before signing on permanently with Reading. He then went to AEL Limassol in Cyprus before returning home to Poland with Jagiellonia Biaystok, Lechia Gdansk and Warta Poznan. Now 35, he has retired.
