10 Stages Of Realisation That David Moyes Is Not The Right Man For Man Utd

6. The Handling Of The Rooney Situation

In November, United got a little bit of much-needed respite and took some of the heat off David Moyes by beating Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford. Previously, the champions had suffered devastating losses to Liverpool and Manchester City and disappointingly drew with Southampton while the Wayne Rooney saga rumbled on. Rooney had earlier been the subject of two transfer bids from Chelsea over the summer amid claims he was unhappy at the club, claims which still persist today. The England international stated he would not play second-fiddle to Robin van Persie after finding himself displaced by the Dutchman as the club's No.1 striker Under Sir Alex Ferguson. So it definitely wasn't smart when Moyes poured petrol on festering tensions by labelling Rooney "a sidekick", risking his star performer's ire. Words which may yet come back to haunt him.
