10 Strikers Who Newcastle Should Sign Instead Of Charlie Austin

2. Diego Rolan

Age: 22 Club: Bordeaux Nationality: Uruguayan Estimated Market Value: £12 million League Apps (2014-15): 28 League Goals (2014-15): 15 Diego Rolan has been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, with Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud even confirming publicly that the Tyneside club had made genuine contact. The Bordeaux No 9 scored 15 league goals in Ligue 1 last season, finishing just behind the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in France's goalscoring charts. The 22-year-old's versatility is another key strength and one that makes him better value than Charlie Austin. The striker can play on the right-hand side if needed, although he is predominantly a complete forward who is a natural in the air, a confident finisher and an intelligent passer of the ball. Yes, he is still very raw but he showed signs of maturity at Bordeaux last season and travelled to the 2015 Copa America to represent Uruguay. Naturally, Rolan plays better when he is partnered with another striker as part of a 4-3-1-2 formation and therefore he would be a better fit than Austin if Steve McClaren wanted to play a second forward alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic.
