10 Things Diego Maradona Wants You To Forget

4. Shooting At Journalists

Journalists are a pesky bunch: if they're not asking difficult questions then they're writing think pieces about difficult questions they'd like to ask and if they're not doing that then they're probably being shot at by Maradona. Months before World Cup 1994 and with El Diego likely to travel with the squad for what would be his last World Cup, he had just been released by Newell's Old Boys for failing to report for training. The reporters, who were filming live from his home, found themselves drenched by hoses from behind the house's walls before being fired at by Maradona and some friends who were crouched behind a Mercedes firing air rifles at them. He was eventually given a suspended jail sentence for the attack, but it didn't stop him making the Argentina squad for USA 1994.
